Community Spirit Course:

What is this Course about?

This course gives you the opportunity to discover and explore six major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism & Sikhism. It allows you to investigate, ask questions and draw your own conclusions as to the beliefs, practices and traditions of each religion.
The course is delivered in a relaxed learning environment designed to encourage you, the participant to feel comfortable in asking those questions that you might otherwise feel uncomfortable asking.
You will have an opportunity to meet people who practise their faith. These people are specially chosen by Liverpool Community Spirit because of their openness and willingness to address challenging questions in a non-confrontational atmosphere of trust, friendship and honest pursuit of truth.

Why is it called Community Spirit?

The main aim of Liverpool Community Spirit is to help promote positive and caring communities. Often we have worries and fears about those who are different to ourselves.
By exploring some of the fundamental beliefs, values, attitudes and customs that are really important to others, we can gain a better understanding of ‘where they are coming from’.
Sometimes this shows that that we share some of the same important ideas about what is right and what is wrong. This understanding can help give us an idea of what we can do to help strengthen the community spirit where we live.

How much does it cost?

Liverpool Community Spirit will tailor and cost the course to meet your needs: from a one day overview to a full five day course. Our Big Lottery Fund support enables us to offer many FREE places and also subsidised rates for organisations.

Community Spirit

The course is facilitated by specialist trainers as well as friends from various local faith and community settings. We create a comfortable learning environment in which you can explore:

•    The different features of each faith: beliefs, customs, food, art, music, traditions, greetings and our local Liverpool heritage.

•    Liverpool’s unique faith centres and discover what happens inside them.

•    The importance of community spirit – what it means in Liverpool today and how to build on it for the future.

All Liverpool Community Spirit Courses are designed to be inclusive and for all people whether they follow a faith or not.
