Background

Liverpool Community Spirit works with people of all generations from diverse faith and cultural backgrounds, including those of no faith, to promote positive and enduring community spirit in our City.
Liverpool Community Spirit is an inter-faith and inter-cultural, community education initiative.  Drawing on the insights of Liverpool’s rich diversity of communities we promote caring and inclusive community spirit across the region.

Who are we?

Liverpool Community Spirit is a PARTNERSHIP of grass - roots representatives of local faith and cultural communities. We partner with local community and voluntary organisations, schools, colleges and Liverpool Hope University.
Liverpool Community Spirit (LCS), established in March 2002 by Dr Matthew Thompson is an independent partnership of Liverpool's diverse faith and cultural communities inspired by and steered by members of the local community.
LCS promotes positive community spirit that recognises and strengthens our common community values, develops understanding and respect for our diverse faith and cultural communities, and encourages the development of self-esteem and confidence to enhance personal and community aspirations.

What we do

  • Innovative (and accredited) Adult Learning Programmes, promoting understanding of diverse faith communities and community spirit.
  • A pioneering inter-faith and inter-cultural Youth Council uniting diverse young people in active citizenship projects.
  • Community projects uniting diverse groups and generations in promoting sustainable and substantial community spirit.

Our Vision

Drawing on the enduring spiritual values of our diverse communities to inspire community spirit grounded in active concern for the neighbour.

Adult Learners Course

This course gives you the opportunity to discover and explore six major world religions; Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.

It allows you to investigate, ask questions and draw your conclusions as to the beliefs, practices and traditions of each religion.

The course is delivered in a relaxing environment designed to encourage the participant to feel comfortable in asking those questions that you would feel uncomfortable asking in other situations.

You will have an opportunity to meet people who practice their faith. These people are specially chosen by Liverpool Community Spirit because of their openness and willingness to address challenging questions in a non-confrontational atmosphere of trust, friendship and honest pursuit of truth.
